Crime By the Numbers - Northeast Auto Burglaries

Auto burglaries are a concern for the entire Las Vegas Valley, and the northeast in particular. When examining the numbers, Crime Tracker 3 found out there have been 198 auto burglaries in the Northeast Area Command from January 1 to March 27. There were 196 auto burglaries in the same time period in 2009. That amounts to a 1% increase. Back in February, the numbers were between six and seven percent higher than in 2009. The bottom line is -- auto burglary is on the decline. Crime Tracker 3 discussed the trend with Northeast Area Captain Chris Darcy.

Metro's Northeast Area Command is moving

The old Northeast Area Command substation (on Mojave) is closing permanently effective Saturday, March 20, 2010. The new Northeast Area Command will open Monday, March 29th, and is located at 3750 Cecile, near Pecos and Cheyenne. New substation hours will be 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday.

During the facility transition, from March 20-29, citizens in the northeast area should utilize Police Records at City Hall, 400 Stewart Ave. The hours at Records are 6:00 a.m. to midnight daily.

New Hours for Metro Area Command Offices

Effective Saturday, March 6, 2010, all eight Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department substations will have new business hours. While still providing a high level of service to the public, these new business hours reflect Metro’s efforts to reduce expenses.

Downtown Area Command’s front office will be closed to the public, however, residents can file reports at the City Hall Plaza Desk. The address of City Hall is 400 East Stewart Avenue, at Las Vegas Blvd. Residents are advised that weapons registrations are not conducted at City hall Plaza Desk. Hours at the City Hall Plaza Desk are 6am to 11pm. Residents can file reports and register weapons at Bolden Area Command. The Bolden Area Command is located at 1851 Stella Lake Street, Las Vegas Nevada, 89106.

Saturday 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

South Central, Southeast, Northeast, Enterprise, Bolden and Convention Center Area Commands

Metro asks for help solving tire shop killing

On January 6, 2010, two Hispanic males entered the Llanteras Del Norte Tire Shop, located at 4280 North Lamb Boulevard, and confronted the two employees working inside. During the confrontation one of the employees was shot. Following the shooting the suspects fled east bound on foot through the parking lot, possibly to a vehicle. The victim was transported by responding medical personnel to the U.M.C. Trauma center where he later died.

The two suspects are described as:
1) A Hispanic male, 25-35 years of age, 6'0'’ tall, with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a dark grey sweatshirt and blue jeans.
2) A Hispanic male, 25-35 years of age, 5'6'’ tall, with a heavy build. He was last seen wearing a light colored hooded jacket with two large blue triangles or a horizontal blue stripe through the mid section.
A possible suspect vehicle in this case has been identified as a dark colored GMC or Chevy Suburban style S.U.V. believed to be either a late 1990's or early 2000 model vehicle.
