Shoots & Ladders Dodge Ball Tournament

The following is a news release from the LVMPD:

This Saturday, the public is invited to a fun-filled fundraiser in support of our first responders of tomorrow.

Shoots & Ladders is a dodge ball tournament featuring teams from police, fire, and emergency services. Tickets for spectators are only $2.00! Proceeds from the event will go to Veterans Tribute Career & Technical Academy, a high school that focuses on educating students who wish to go into public service careers.

Dodge ball games will be run by MMA Ref. Steve Mazzagatti.

In addition to the dodge ball there will be food, music, a giant yard sale, and more.

Report claims Nevada is the most dangerous state, again

A new version of an annual analysis of FBI Crime data by CQ Press shows that Nevada is ranked "least favorably."
I'm very suspicious of this kind of analysis. First, combining crime reports by state does not make a great deal of sense. Crime in New York City isn't really strongly related to crime in Buffalo, for example. Since so much of the population is focused in Clark County, a look at crime here in Nevada is really a look at state-wide crime is almost like a diluted look at crime in metro Las Vegas.
When you compare the states, Nevada comes in with the highest crime rate for this year's report. Because of reporting delays, this year's report is based on 2009 crime reports. Crime Tracker 3's weekly look at crime trends, on the other hand, uses data that is current to the last complete week (i.e. our statistics are between one and seven days delayed, depending on the day of the week of our report.)
It should be noted that the FBI, which compiles the data CQ Press uses to generate its reports, discourages the use of the statistics to make "rankings." The FBI is also working on a more thorough system to collect crime data beyond the ten crime categories tracked in the Uniform Crime Reports.

Manhunt Monday - Marc Dimagiba

Las Vegas Metro Police say on January 18 of this year Dimagiba went to the residence of his ex-girlfriend, which was located in the 8000 block of Rock Port Circle in the Northwest part of Las Vegas. Dimagiba initially entered the residence through a rear window, and then entered the garage area. When the residents locked the door between the garage and the house Dimagiba broke down the door and violently assaulted his ex-girlfriend. When he realized the police had been called, Dimagiba fled the residence.

Based on these criminal acts Dimagiba is currently wanted on felony warrants for:

• Home invasion and
• Burglary

Marc Dimagiba is an Asian male adult, 29 years of age, standing 5'10" tall and weighing approximately 180 lbs. with black hair and brown eyes.

He sometimes uses the middle name of Angelo, or the middle initial “A”, and sometimes spells his first name “Mark”. Dimagiba has an 8" scar on his left forearm. His previous addresses include the 500 block of Playa Linda Place and the 5400 block of Latigo Street, both in Las Vegas.

Marc Dimagiba’s criminal history includes arrests for:

• Obstructing a Police Officer,
• Convicted person - failure to change address,
• Possession of an altered firearm without a serial number,
• Trafficking in a controlled substance,
• Possession of stolen property,
• Numerous traffic related charges,
• Possession of drug paraphernalia,
• Possession of a controlled substance [numerous arrests], and
• Possession of a stolen firearm,

Crime By the Numbers - Northeast Auto Burglaries

Auto burglaries are a concern for the entire Las Vegas Valley, and the northeast in particular. When examining the numbers, Crime Tracker 3 found out there have been 198 auto burglaries in the Northeast Area Command from January 1 to March 27. There were 196 auto burglaries in the same time period in 2009. That amounts to a 1% increase. Back in February, the numbers were between six and seven percent higher than in 2009. The bottom line is -- auto burglary is on the decline. Crime Tracker 3 discussed the trend with Northeast Area Captain Chris Darcy.
